Final lineup announced for our Summer MLUG

Our next free Midlands LabVIEW User group will be on Monday 11th July from 1pm at the Manufacturing Technology Centre, Ansty Park in Coventry. As the group becomes more established it is able to attract a wide variety of different attendees, which is growing each time we meet. We are pleased to be able to confirm that James McNally and Wes Ramm are going to be our speakers for the event.

James originally worked for National Instruments UK, and had done for many years until 2 years ago when he founded Wiresmith Technology which helps companies use NI’s embedded hardware in their systems. He is a CLA and CLED and loves to write and talk about software engineering in LabVIEW and LabVIEW RT and FPGA applications.

His presentation will develop a session he will be delivering at NI Week. As James identifies, “everything at Wiresmith Technology is OO in LabVIEW. What we have tried to do though is not get too bogged down in high-level patterns and computer science but focus on a few key goals:

  • More readable code
  • Less coupled code
  • More testable code

Therefore the purpose of the presentation is to share a few practical tips for how object oriented design has helped the company improve their code since they started 2 years ago. This is for all levels of user, including those who haven’t had much contact with OO before.

Wes is the Managing Director for the UK operation of Cyth Systems where he has worked for a number of years, Cyth is a company specialising in project engineering in Instrumentation and Automation Engineering for the Bio-Medical, Manufacturing, Automotive and Aerospace communities. Wes is a Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA) who has been using LabVIEW for a long time both within his current company and previous work with Sonalysts, Inc.

The topic of Wes' presentation will be "Variants are your friend", based on LabVIEW variants which Wes and his colleague Richard have discovered to be a LabVIEW 'power tool'.

Anyone who either uses LabVIEW within their current role or works with LabVIEW would be sure to find this event useful and informative, as well as being a good opportunity to network. Those interested in attending this free event should contact Jenny Bragg via email (mlug@argentaconsult.com) or call Argenta’s office on 0121 318 6363 to register and be sent details of the Coding Challenge.

Our previous meetings have all been well received and importantly well attended with many regulars attending which is fantastic!

Once again we are welcoming speakers to talk about their latest innovative projects. There’s time to ask questions and enjoy networking with fellow practitioners. We have also introduced a new segment to the meeting– a ‘show and tell’ session with a coding challenge!

We’re meeting at:
