More LabVIEW experts gear up to speak at the next Midlands LabVIEW User Group

Our next free Midlands LabVIEW User group will be on Monday 14th November from 1pm at Aston University in Birmingham. As we enter our 3rd year we continue to be excited by the growth of the group in terms of not just numbers but diversity of attendees. We are pleased to be able to confirm that Colin Freeman and James Powell are going to be our speakers for the event.
Colin is a Controls, Instrumentation and Electronics Engineer at Frazer-Nash Consultancy Ltd with experience in aerospace control systems and the rail sector. He has worked on a diverse range of projects, combining both hardware and software design; requirements capture and management; simulation; manufacture; test; commissioning and fault finding.
His presentation will focus on a recent project on which he collaborated with Bombardier, a global leader in the rail industry, to develop a state-of-the-art system integration test facility for Train Zero. Colin's work on the project and the subsequent paper submitted by Frazer-Nash to National Instruments won the Transportation and Heavy Equipment category at NI's Engineering Impact awards ceremony in Austin, Texas so is well recognised in the sector. The project, which was headed up by Colin, enables an innovative approach to systems integration and provides Bombardier with the capability for testing and refinement of new rolling stock much earlier in the design process than has previously been possible.
The project utilised NI Veristand, National Instruments' tool for real-time hardware in the loop testing, a subject area which hasn't previously been touched upon within the user group so we are sure that through the use of a case study, our members will add further depth to their existing knowledge.
James is a National Instruments LabVIEW Champion who started using the software when working as a nuclear physicist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, California. He is the author of a few LabVIEW packages on the LabVIEW Tools Network, notably “SQLite Library” and “Messenger Library”, the latter being the package he uses for the “actor model” style programing. In addition he has a few other packages on the LAVA Code Repository, notably "JSON LabVIEW". As a very experienced LabVIEW user and attendee at the CSLUG we are grateful for James taking the time to come a little further North to speak with the group.
The topic of James' presentation will be around the area of leveraging SQLite in LabVIEW, as with Colins' presentation we are able to provide the group with another new subject area that we are sure will be of interest.
