Cracking line-up for the first Midlands LabVIEW User Group of 2017

With just over a month to go before our first Midlands LabVIEW User Group of 2017 on Monday 13th February, here is some more information about the line-up.

First up will be Sam Sharp of Media Mongrels, a ‘geek through and through’ (his own words!) running his own business providing solutions using LabVIEW and TestStand offering a range of consultancy services for clients across the UK. Sam has a MEng in Mechatronics and an MSc through Research in Control Engineering. He is also a Certified LabVIEW Architect and a Certified TestStand Developer so all in all a pretty talented guy which is why we are excited to welcome him to the MLUG.

Sam will be talking about his WebSockets library which is published on the NI Community. He identifies that LabVIEW is a very powerful tool for interfacing with hardware, but it can sometimes be lacking in its interfacing with users. The Web, on the other hand, has a vast array of tools and resources for creating great responsive user interfaces. Wouldn't it be great if we could combine the two?

Sam’s WebSockets library allows you to transfer data between a LabVIEW application and a browser to multiple clients with low latency. He will present a couple of examples of how he has been able to leverage this technology to bring LabVIEW to the web.

Argenta will be up next with an introduction to abstraction layers and how they are developing applications integrating both measurement and hardware abstraction layers, HALs and MALs! To ensure a robust and future proofed application HALs and MALs are essential. Argenta will describe how they have used these techniques on recent projects and how we are looking to develop this area on future projects utilising OOP.

We are also expecting a visit from Dan Vickers who is the Academic District Sales Manager at National Instruments who will be delivering a presentation focusing on the rail sector.

Add to all of this we have our regular coding challenge and an opportunity to network with like-minded professionals from across the Midlands, what more could you want for a Monday afternoon!

The venue for February’s meeting is the University of Birmingham - the meeting room is on Birmingham Research Park which is adjacent to the University with free parking for all attendees. Get in touch with us to book your space and to join the LabVIEW community in their first meeting of 2017.

Anyone who either uses LabVIEW within their current role or works with LabVIEW would be sure to find this event useful and informative, as well as being a good opportunity to network. Those interested in attending this free event should contact Jenny Bragg via email (mlug@argentaconsult.com) or call Argenta’s office on 0121 318 6363 to register and be sent details of the Coding Challenge.

Our previous meetings have all been well received and importantly well attended with many regulars attending which is fantastic!

Once again we are welcoming speakers to talk about their latest innovative projects. There’s time to ask questions and enjoy networking with fellow practitioners. We also include a Coding Challenge for any of you who want to take part!

We’re meeting at:

University of Birmingham (Birmingham Research Park)
Vincent Drive
Birmingham
B15 2SQ

It's free to register, simply e-mail mlug@argentaconsult.com or phone us on 0121 318 6363
