Websockets, Channel Wires & Managing Architectures – an action packed Midlands LabVIEW User Group!

With just under a month to go before our next Midlands LabVIEW User Group we are delighted to confirm the final line up. The meeting will be held on Monday 2nd October from 12.45 at ZF TRW in Shirley near Solihull.

Sam Sharp will be joining us after having to postpone his presentation at our February meeting due to illness. Sam, of Media Mongrels, is a ‘geek through and through’ (his own words!) running his own business providing solutions using LabVIEW and TestStand offering a range of consultancy services for clients across the UK. Sam has a MEng in Mechatronics and an MSc through Research in Control Engineering. He is also a Certified LabVIEW Architect and a Certified TestStand Developer so all in all a pretty talented guy which is why we are excited to welcome him to the MLUG.

Sam will be talking about his WebSockets library which is published on the NI Community. He identifies that LabVIEW is a very powerful tool for interfacing with hardware, but it can sometimes be lacking in its interfacing with users. The Web, on the other hand, has a vast array of tools and resources for creating great responsive user interfaces. Wouldn't it be great if we could combine the two?

Sam’s WebSockets library allows you to transfer data between a LabVIEW application and a browser to multiple clients with low latency. He will present a couple of examples of how he has been able to leverage this technology to bring LabVIEW to the web.

Matt Surridge, who is an Applications Engineering Specialist from National Instruments, will also be joining us to talk about channel wires. He will be giving us a practical demonstration related to a realistic scenario with some background in to how they work and what they might be used for. He will also pick up on new features of LabVIEW 2017 and if there is time we might also get an overview of LabVIEW NXG.

Finally, Ian Deaville who is a Senior Test Engineer (Test and Validation) for ZF TRW. His presentation title is “In at the Deep End – managing architectures, structures and code re-use for a generalist engineer”.

The Coding Challenge is now available! Take a look, if you're unable to attend but still want a challenge please feel free to send us your solution!
