Last month’s Autumn Midlands LabVIEW User Group did not disappoint!

We were delighted to welcome a number of new members to the meeting as well as many of our faithful MLUGers, some of whom return each and every time which is great to see!

Our first venture in to remote presenting went off without too many issues and was met with much enthusiasm by not only the attendees in person but others who logged in from as far a field as India!

It was also Joerg Hampel's first foray in to remote presenting and he had nothing but positive feedback, in fact he would love to come back and do it again!

Joerg is the owner of HAMPEL SOFTWARE ENGINEERING a company working with customers to increase the quality of their software through improved development processes. His presentation titled ‘Continuous Distribution with LabVIEW and Gitlab’ focused on the key question of - ‘How many clicks does it take from saving a modified LabVIEW VI to getting the updated application to your customer?’ This introduced the concept of Continuous Integration, and showcased how his company uses LabVIEW together with Gitlab’s Continuous Integration & Deployment features to automate recurring manual processes. The presentation can be located on the HAMPEL SOFTWARE ENGINEERING blog.

At this meeting we substituted the Coding Challenge for something a little larger in the form of a Live Code Review hosted by Kabul Maharjan who is a Principal Process Development Engineer at Renishaw PLC. The roles of facilitator and mediator were taken by group members with the audience really engaging in the process. A number of people commented about the value of the code review and identified how much they enjoyed discussing the code with others.

This is something we would like to do at future user group meetings, so if you do have some code that you would like to share with us and the other attendees then please do get in touch. Ten (or more!) heads are often better than one!

We finished the User Group with Chris Palser-Thorne who is an account manager from National Instruments, who told the group all about LabVIEW NXG. It was great to understand and talk about the new LabVIEW platform and what is coming up in the future. This, along with a bagful of NI goodies, went down very well with the audience! Chris has very kindly shared his presentation should you have missed something or couldn't attend.

We are very pleased to confirm that Birmingham City University is hosting our next meeting which will be held on Tuesday 5th February 2019.

The agenda is being put together at the moment but we can tell you that Hans Tang from Frazer-Nash Consultancy will be one of our presenters. As a regular member of the group we are delighted that he will be delivering a presentation based on how FNC work with VeriStand, he is hoping to have a demo ready for the presentation too. More information on other speakers will be released as we get them!

Anyone who either uses LabVIEW within their current role or works with LabVIEW would be sure to find this event useful and informative, as well as being a good opportunity to network. Those interested in attending this free event should register using this link.
