What's in store for our Summer Midlands LabVIEW User Group?

We are looking forward to our Summer MLUG which is taking place on Tuesday 11th June. Jaguar LandRover are hosting the event this time and we will be meeting at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon from 12.45pm.

As always, we have a great line-up of fantastic presenters covering a range of LabVIEW related subject areas, with the opportunity to chat and discuss with like-minded people. The full agenda can be located here, which includes information about the venue and timings.

In no particular order (we don't like to have any bias!), here are the details of what we have in store for you.

Sam Sharp - Efficiently Working with Databases in LabVIEW

In this presentation, Sam will show some of the hints & tips he has picked up from years of experience communicating with databases in LabVIEW, TestStand and a past life in Web Development. After a brief recap, he will look at some database best practices, ways to improve your efficiency when working with databases and to introduce some initial work on what we can learn from how databases are treated in the web development world (e.g. ActiveRecord).

Sam is a LabVIEW Champion and the director of MediaMongrels Ltd, an NI Alliance Partner offering bespoke Control, Test & Measurement systems using a wide range of NI and non-NI hardware. He is the creator of the free LabVIEW WebSockets toolkit and one of the founding members of GDevCon.

Ian Billinglsey - FPGA Programming in LabVIEW: Techniques to Minimise Recompiles

As part of Ian's upcoming presentation at GDevcon#2 he is looking to research developers thoughts and bounce some ideas on this subject - let’s discuss!

Ian is the Software Director at Computer Controlled Solutions Ltd. In 1998 he discovered a remarkable graphically based programming language called LabVIEW as he started working as a rookie software engineer. Since then he likes to believe that he has built up a wealth of experience of the good, the bad and the ugly path of software development.

Developing FGPA based Control and Acquisition systems for the Aerospace and Automotive industries has been our bread and butter since around 2006. Ian is looking forward to presenting at MLUG once again having been one of the inaugral speakers at the first meeting!

Jonathan Hobson - Packed Project Libraries – How GDevCon #1 helped complete our Abstraction puzzle.

In September 2018, Matthias Baudot of Studio Bods presented a technical session at GDevCon #1 on Packed Project Libraries (PPLs). This presentation inspired Jonathan to take a plunge into using these versatile and scalable libraries to rapidly improve the scalability and deploy-ability of TBG's project code. In this presentation you’ll find out how, what and why they made this decision and explore some of the benefits and pitfalls of PPLs.

Jonathan is currently the Systems Engineering Group Lead at TBG Solutions, a UK based Gold Alliance Partner specialising in Automated Test, DAQ and control systems in a range of applications with primary business in the Aerospace and Defence sector.

Anyone who either uses LabVIEW within their current role or works with LabVIEW would be sure to find attending the User Group useful and informative, as well as being a good opportunity to network. It is also a great Continuous Professional Development opportunity and can also contribute to re-certification.

You do need to sign up to this event so head over to our MLUG page where you'll find the link at the bottom of the page. Places are limited at this venue so don't delay in reserving your space!
